在英语表述中经常会有一些容易混淆的短语给我们的学习造成困扰，他们往往是要么读音相似，要么形式相近，但却有截然不同的意思。本期内容我们就要讨论USED TO这个短语的几个不同变化。

1Be used to do sth.被用来做某事

【used to之前接系动词be，之后跟动词原形】

This device is used to cut the logs.

这台设备是用来切割木头的。

This pen is not used to write words.

这支笔并不是拿来写字的。

2Used to do sth.过去常常做某事

【Used to后面跟动词原形】

2.1 Used to被用来表示"过去的一种习惯性动作。"

I used to play basketball every day with my father when I was a little boy.

当我还是个小孩子的时候，我经常和爸爸一起打篮球。

My dad used to call me Roc, but now he dosen't.

我爸爸过去经常叫我Roc，但他现在不这样叫了。

2.2 Used to也可以被用来表示"过去的一种固定的状态。"

She used to work in that company.

她以前就在那家公司上班。

Jack used to live in Beijing 1 year ago.

Jack 1年之前住在北京。

2.3 Used to和过去进行时

【如果表示"过去的习惯"的时候应该使用used to，而不能使用"过去进行时"】

My brother used to play video games when he was younger.

我哥哥在小时候经常玩电子游戏。

【如果需要强调"过去的某个时间正在发生的动作"的时候则应该使用"过去进行时"】

My brother was playing a video game when I went into the room.

当我进到房间的时候，我的哥哥正在玩电子游戏。

2.4 Used to在疑问句和否定句中变为use to

Who did you use to live with before you came to Beijing?

在你来到北京之前和谁一起住？

Did you use to play basketball when you were young?

你年轻的时候是不是经常打篮球？

We didn't use to talk with each other until I broke his cup.

我们之前不怎么说话，知道我把他的杯子打碎。

2.5 Would也可以替换used to，被用来表示"过去的一种习惯性动作"

【但是would不能表示"过去存在的一种状态"】

When I was a high-school student, I would go swimming once a month.

当我还是中学生的时候，我经常每个月都会去游一次泳。

I would ask my parents for help with anything before I graduated from school.

在我毕业以前，无论任何事情我都会从我父母哪里寻求帮助。

【这种情况下，句子中往往会跟一个表示过去的时间表达或者表示频率的短语。】

3Get used to sth.

Get used to sth.用于描述"逐渐适应某个新的环境或者事物，直到熟悉为止。"

It is a little bit embarrassing when you move to a new city. But don't worry too much, you will get used to it.

当你搬到一个新城市的时候，总会有一点尴尬。但不用担心，你会逐渐适应的。

When I went to Chengdu the first time, I couldn't get used to the spicy food.

当我第一次去成都的时候，我不能适应那里辛辣的食物。

4Be used to sth.

Be used to sth.用于描述"已经适应某个新的环境或事物。"

I am used to the customs in Xi'an because I have been here for 10 years.

我在西安已经10年时间了，因此我能够适应这里的风俗习惯。

As an English teacher, I am used to being asked such questions like how to improve one's pronunciation.

作为一名英语老师，我已经习惯了被学员提问诸如怎样才能提高他们的发音这样的问题。
